The flag of Luxembourg - Lëtzebuerger Fändel, is a horizontal tricolor of red, white and blue, it was officially adopted as National flag in June 23, 1972.
It consists of three horizontal stripes, red, white and blue, derived from the Grand Duke's coat of arms and can be in 1:2 or 3:5 ratio.
The Red Lion - Roude Léiw, is the official ensign for ships registered in Luxembourg. It is used for river and sea shipping, as well as for aviation.
It is a banner of the coat of arms of Luxembourg, made of ten horizontal white and blue stripes with a red lion with yellow claws, teeth, tongue and a crown over all.
The proper ratio for this ensign is 5:7
In July 27, 1993, the Réglement Grand-Ducal defined the ensign's colors as:
Red : Pantone 032 c
Blue : Pantone 299 c
Yellow : Pantone 116 c
White
On July 6, 2007, the Government stated that the Roude Léiw would be accepted as a Civil flag within the territory of Luxembourg along with the National flag, keeping the same proportions 1:2 or 3:5, as the National flag to avoid confusion with the Civil ensign.
