The Hollow Tooth

The Hollow Tooth (tower) is the only remain of one of the fortress gates of the old castle on the Bock rock. During the demolition works in 1871, the tower was only half destroyed. So the authorities decided to 'mend' what was left and transformed it to look like the ruins of a medieval castle.

There is actually not that much to see of the ruins themselves anymore. But what is especially impressive is the worthwhile seeing panoramic view of Luxembourg City with the Alzette River valley below.

Notre-Dame Cathedral

Notre-Dame Cathedral - d'Staater Kathedral, is a Roman Catholic Cathedral in Luxembourg City. It is the only cathedral in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and it was originally a Jesuit church.

The first stone was laid on May 7, 1613 under Father François Aldenard. The constructor was Ulrich Job from Lucerne, Switzerland.

The church is a mentionable example of late gothic architecture but it also has Renaissance elements and adornments. In 1848, it received the name "Notre-Dame" under the apostolic vicar Jean-Théodore Laurent.

In 1870, the church was elevated by Pope Pius IX to the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. It was expanded in 1935.

The Cathedral has three towers, the west tower which contains the bells was the tower of the Jesuit church, the east tower and a central tower which is only a third of the height of the other towers.

The Grund Quarter

The Grund quarter - Gronn, is a quarter in central Luxembourg City. It is located in the valley of the River Alzette at the banks of the river.

A real picturesque, charming area! In addition it is also a cultural and popular nightlife precinct which can be accessed by foot or via a lift which descends through the cliff.

The Grund is also home to Mosconi (located at rue Münster), a two star Michelin restaurant which specializes in pasta.
